First weeeeek

A week already??

All right so before we start I've been requested (quite a few times actually) if I could write these in English so all my friends who do not speak Finnish (gotta thank cisv & afs at this point) can understand. This might actually be a good idea, after all imma gonna have to keep up my English for KSYK :D Manageable I'd say, since pretty much all the Finns I know are reading this blog can read in English as well, but I gotta warn u there's gonna be some texts in Finnish as well.
(Translations upon requests)

SOOOOO first week huh? I came to San Fernando last Sunday, so it's been a week already. A week that has been very full, weird but mostly just fun. And went by very fast.

School started pretty ok I'd say and unlike other exchange students I've been talking to, I went to school already on Monday. On the first day I was just very lost and confused since everyone was just staring at me (mainly because I have blonde hair but also bc I didn't have a school uniform yet) and all the things I was hearing were in Spanish which, unsurprisingly, made me even more confused. The first day went by pretty quickly. My classmates held me a "welcome party" in our classroom which was great and then for the rest of the classes i just sat there, understanding nothing about anything. After school we (me & Cata) came home to eat lunch and met Eva Maria, the president of AFS San Fernando at San Fernando college, and we also went to buy me a school uniform. The school uniform I got now is the physical education version (as in navy-blue sweatpants & hoodie and a red/white T-shirt) since it's too cold outside to wear a skirt. (I forgot to take a picture lol sorry about that maybe some other time)

Rest of the school week went okay as well.
On Tuesday we ate lunch at school because I had my first basketball practice. Although it was quite different compared to the ones we had in Finland it was a lot of fun (and also the first thing where i understood everything). After the practice we also had a science club, where I literally just sat and watched the others cause chemical reactions and stuff like that, but it was fun.
On Wednesday I did basically nothing after school, since my Spanish classes at San Fernando college start only next week.
Thursday morning we had this thing where different people came to tell about their professions. I think it was quite similar to opo back in Finland but instead of different schools and education opportunities the persons were talking about actual careers. On Thursday I also had my second basketball practice, in which the first hour was physical training and the second hour was basketball itself. The coach was half an hour late, but that didn't stop us from having the 2 hour practice we were meant to have. After the practice I was supposed to go to a crossfit class with my host mom & sister, but I was super tired so I just stayed back.
Friday was a bit different. We went to the city center and we ran 2 km, against bullying. Most of the students from our school were just walking but me and Pedro ran the whole thing (which wasn't even that long tbh). In the evening I did go to the crossfit class, which was not really the smartest choice since my muscles were already really sore from the basketball practice from the day before, but I made it.

On Saturday I slept long which was great after a week of only waking up at 6.30 in the morning. (yikes too early for me). In the afternoon we went for a walk in the city center with my host mom and younger sister. We also played some cards and later in the evening we went to see The Lion King. The movie was dubbed in Spanish so i barely understood anything but it was all good since it is quite easily followed even if you can't understand what they are saying. Sorry not sorry but Can You Feel The Love Tonight is now ruined for me by the Spanish version. Today - as in Sunday is día del niño (no idea if I spelled that correctly but it's children's day, voting for Finland to get one too) so we went out to eat lunch with some family members. Later in the afternoon we went cycling with my host sisters which was really fun.

Altogether this week has been fun and I can't wait for the many more to come. (Still going strong with this blog thing, who would've thought)

Stay tuned

Saara
